ENERGY EFFICIENCY

Energy efficiency means optimising energy use to reduce costs and minimise environmental impact. Through advanced technologies, smart management and best practices, companies can reduce their energy consumption without compromising their productivity. Implementing energy efficiency measures not only generates significant economic savings, but also strengthens the social responsibility and competitiveness of the organisation.

Energy efficiency improvement methods

Measures can be applied in any production process. Five sectors are distinguished and some examples of concrete measures that can be taken to improve energy efficiency are listed:

TERTIARY AND RESIDENTIAL SECTOR

The tertiary and residential sectors have the largest number of buildings.

  • Thermal envelope and window refurbishment
  •  Replacement of luminaires with LEDs
  • Building automation and control systems
  • Installation or renewal of heat pumps, replacement of refrigerants, replacement of compressors, replacement of burners, etc.
  • Implementation of heat networks, variable speed drives, etc.
  • Replacement of heat recovery ventilation systems
  • Hybridisation of installations
  • Acquisition of high-efficiency appliances
  • Swimming pools and buildings with solar thermal plants

INDUSTRIAL SECTOR

A sector where there is a high concentration of energy consumption per square metre, therefore with great potential for savings.

  • Replacement of inefficient machinery, induction electric motors, pumps, heat exchangers.
  • Implementation of frequency inverters, UPS, heat recovery systems, etc.
  • Replacing boilers with heat pumps
  • Replacement of obsolete burners and heat generation systems
  • Improving insulation in pipes and building envelopes or cold/heat rooms
  • Replacement of refrigerants, generators and compressors in refrigeration systems

TRANSPORT SECTOR

The main energy consumer in Spain.

  • Replacement by electric vehicles
  • Route optimisation
  • Telemetry and positioning systems
  • Shared journeys
  • Retrofitting of cargo transport equipment in ports and airports
  • Implementation of electrical infrastructure capable of powering large ship batteries

AGRICULTURE SECTOR

  • Modernisation of fleets and machinery
  • Thermal screens in greenhouses
  • Migration to localised irrigation systems
  • Use of efficient pumps
  • Efficient use of fertilisers
  • Improving insulation
  • Precision farming

Energy Saving Certificates - CAEs

The Energy Saving Certificate (CAE) is an spanish digital document that certifies that, after implementing an energy efficiency improvement (such as lighting replacement, optimisation of thermal insulation or modernisation of industrial equipment), energy consumption has been reduced by 1 kWh. For example, if a specific action generates a saving of 100,000 kWh per year, this allows to obtain 100,000 CAE.

This system facilitates the monetisation of energy savings, helping to recover part of the investment made in energy efficiency projects. The user can sell the savings achieved for official certification and receive financial compensation.

IF YOU ARE A CONSUMER

If you are a consumer in any of the above sectors and you want to carry out energy efficiency improvements in your buildings or production processes or have already done so, you can recover up to a significant part of your CAPEX investment through Energy Saving Certificates.

IF YOU ARE A REGULATED ENTITY

In order to comply with the legality in terms of energy savings, obligated entities must comply with their contribution to the National Energy Efficiency Fund, which can partly be done with CAE certificates, which is more attractive for the obligated entities.

How can we help you?

From the identification of savings opportunities to the complete management of Energy Saving Certificates:

Energy Saving Certificates allow companies to justify the implementation of energy efficiency projects and recover part of the investment made, generate additional income and also contribute to the sustainability of their activities. By demonstrating commitment to the environment, it facilitates compliance with energy saving regulations and enhances business reputation.
